Selmer Paris claims that the C85/CP100 series have barrel chambers while the standard series has a trapeze chamber. What is the difference?

If you do a search here on 'trapeze' there are a couple of hits on B45 dot. The bore of this mpc narrows suddenly just before the baffle. By comparison, the C85 mpcs appear to taper more gently to the baffle. The facings are similar, but for me reeds feel harder on the C85. Also the B45 dot has something of a tendency to overblow.

I'd love to know more - this seems a bit of a black art (maybe rightly so - easier to keep a chamber design secret than a facing). Anyone?

I did search before i posted but I didn't seem to get much information on intonation and tone tendencies of the two types. That's what I'm mainly looking for.

I can only comment on the C85 and the B45 dot, both of which I've played and liked, and which have clearly different internals though the facings are similar. The 115 facing of the C85 feels similar to the 120 facing of the B45 dot. The B45 dot is a bigger sound, but the C85 is more precise, slightly brighter, and tuned ever-so-slightly sharper. If I pinch the B45 dot to bring it up to pitch it invariably squeaks at me.

Guessing that one has angle sidewalls and the other staight or bowed out.
Gives trapezoidal shape when viewed from below.....with the trapeze deriving from the shape.

Or perhaps it means you SWING when you play [grin]
