Hello! I just noticed on another website that there has been a new model of clarinet added to the Leblanc by Backun line. The "Bliss" model as it is called is supposedly aimed at the intermediate segment of the market, but I am wondering if anyone has actually seen or got their hands on the new models to see how it stacks up against other models like the Buffet E-11 or the Yamaha 450. Thanks for your help!

This is a new one on me, but I'll check it out. I'm sure the Bliss refers to Julian Bliss because he is a Backun guy. Julian hand-selected my clarinet bell while he was in Morrie's studio a couple of years ago and I know he's spent time with Morrie and has had custom clarinets made. This would be no surprise in the evolution of developing the Leblanc-Backun line of instruments.

Assuming there is such a model, I suppose the "Bliss" could refer to Julien but personally I'd put my money on Leblanc's typical marketing hype. "Play this clarinet and you'll achieve total bliss." Or perhaps they did name it after Julien because it has a "youthful" tone. ![[tongue]](http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/smileys/smilie6.gif)

Seeing as his name appears on endorsements of every other product in the known universe, it's just a matter of time before Leblanc unveils a "Tiger Woods" model.
Probably has a weighted bell and carbon-fiber body.
I'd bet that Dr. Hank Lehrer would be one of the first customers.

Hi everyone, there is indeed a new clarinet from Morrie and the the gang a Leblanc. It's the Julian Bliss model. It's a "non-wood" clarinet, and will retail for under $800. I performed a few tunes on it yesterday here at the Namm show. It plays INTUNE has a very nice sound.
The model I played had a specially designed wooden barrel. really hip black keys
Right out of the box this clarinet played, I think this clarinet will find it's way into alot of gigging professionals collections. If you teach, you will want your students playing this clarinet. Non of the horns at Namm had mouthpieces on them but I've been told this one comes with a very nice mouthpiece, and really nice small case. I can't wait to get one, I do plenty of gigs where, I would much rather not take my Symphony model to because of tempurature, humidity, rowdy crowds and this clarinet will fill the bill for me.
Morrie says a version of the Bliss clarinet will be an all wood model, this wasn't available here to try, but I bet it sound nice.
This is my first time at the Namm show. Let me tell you guys this place is a total circus. Everything used to make music is on display here. My klezmer band I'm told is the first to play at a mostly "pop, rock,jazz" show. It's amazing there are guys running around here in spiked hair, leather pants and lots and lots of piercings, and they look to be over 60. This is nothing like an ICA convention!
Today, Bobby and I will be doing a show at the Saga guitar booth, this company makes a Django Rheinhart model guitar that Bob plays on klezmer music. This demo should be a blast because it's right in middle of "rock and roll" land at this show. I hear gypsy jazz great guitarist John Jorgensen might play a few tunes with us today. John is an amazing guitarist that is an equally amazing clarinetist. This should be a load of fun.

This thread is pretty dead but im still going to share my thought. I got one of these last night and i love it. It plays pretty sharp. I think at like 442 but that can be fixed with a longer barrel. It compares quite favoriable with the yamaha 440N that i also have. I originaly got this clarinet for pep band but i might use if for wind ensemble too.
Also if anyone was wondering I names it Elphaba because it looks diffrent than all the other.clarinets but "sings" beautifuly.
