Darn it. It eventually happens to everyone. Mine just happened to be a borbeck 13. Was an awesome mouthpiece, just wish it hadn't gone out like this.

sad day.

Before tossing this awesome mouthpiece....Check with Brad Behn. I saw a Kaspar that looked a lot like your Borbeck, he was able to repair it and according to the owner (Brenda S. I believe), it as well or better than it did prior to the mishap.

David Spiegelthal repaired on for me that was broken in the same manner. . . it is just like new!

My B46 was much worse than this - the side rails had gone as well. But I managed to superglue it all back together (and a bit of fettling to make it right) and still get a tune from it.

Certainly it can be repaired, but are replacement Borbecks available?

How much would it cost to have a backup, on hand?

I feel your pain. I lost a Borbeck 13 about 25 years ago. I got it from my teacher - Walter Wollwage (who was with the CSO) in about 1974. Borbeck had sent a bunch of mouthpieces to the CSO clarinet section, and some of us students were lucky enough to get one as well. It may have been the best mouthpiece I've ever played. I pkayed it throughout high school and college. I don't even recall how it got broken, but it was about a week before my senior undergrad recital, and I just about cried. I tried others, but none came close to that original one - not mass produced, but hand finished by Borbeck.

If one of these great mouthpiece techs can re-make it for you - go for it!

Oh, crap. do I take it from the tenor of this thread that Borbecks are no longer made? I have a Borbeck 11 and always thought I'd send it back to Mr. B to have it checked & corrected for wear etc. at some point. No more Borbeck?

no borbeck still makes mouthpieces. he's located in vegas? He has launched his borbeck mouthpiece line that can be seen at wwbw. they're just fantastic mouthpieces either way. well mine was.
