looking for used bass clarinet - any suggestions
Author: packrat

I'm thinking of purchasing a used bass clarinet. I remember reading some posts last year about bass clarinets and some that had problems with keywork, etc. Now I can't find the post. Are there any that I should stay away from or any recommendations before I start looking? Since this is not a primary instrument for me I'm not going to be buy a professional model. I'm thinking a used student or intermediate model plastic or rubber since I plan to use it in a community band. Or if anyone can steer me to the posting I am referring to I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Becky

Terry Stibal has written many informative posts on different bass clarinet models.

Here may be the one you remember:

Seach under "Terry Stibal bass" (no quotes needed) for other posts to read...GBK

If you are interested in student bass clarinets then maybe you can read this thread http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=255027&t=254992

The cheap plastic ones really are OK - I've had years of fun with mine (Selmer USA). Get the keywork adjusted so all the pads close and buy a decent mouthpiece, and you're all set.

I posted this info a couple of weeks ago, elsewhere, I'm sure. Larson Music in Okla City had/still-has? a Buffet Low C bass cl , overhauled, fine-appearing, '80's vintage, for sale at about $1500 [plus 8-9% tax], which attracted my interest, but didn't "need" it badly ! Is this appropriate, GBK ? delete as much as needed, I have only friendship with them. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
