 Bass Clarinet Reeds Online

Hi,

I'm currently a high school student in the school's concert band and wind ensemble.

I use Vandoren reeds on 3's and I'm looking to get a new set of reeds.

Because of the price of reeds, I'm looking for the cheapest reeds possible, but still staying in my requirements of Vandoren's and a reed strength of 3's.

In my local neighborhood, these reeds go for prices in the low and mid-$20's.

Online ...

...I've found some reeds that are priced about $14/$17. I was wondering if these sites/services are reliable, and if anyone knows of a good online retailer that sells these reeds at a reasonable price, good service, and shipping available to the USA.

Thanks and i appreciate the help.

I have used Muncy and WWBW. IMO, Muncy Winds is one of the best online music shops around. I order from the all the time, they are fast and reliable when it comes to shipping. Also, they are trusted by many top rated musicians. I recommend them highly!

Best of luck!
-Matt

Weiner Music is fast, reliable and offers the same low prices, with free shipping for orders over $60.

I can recommend the 1Stop Clarinet and Sax Shop. Good prices, very reasonable shipping costs (even internationally), reliable services. (No affiliations except being a happy customer).

I had only good experience with www.wwbw.com and www.muncywinds.com and both seem to sell the Vandoren strength 3 bass clarinet reeds for the same price just under $14. If an item is in stock (and according to the website these reeds are) you shouldn't have a problem.

On the Muncy Winds website, isn't it a bit odd how there's like 90 Unregistered customers and only 1 registered customer on the website? It's like this every time I'm on this website..

Not to every country it seems. Based on your recommendation I tried to order from them because I've been looking for a store in the USA with a good selection and reasonable inetrnational shipping prices. I only wanted to order a $30 harness, so nothing big and heavy. When I tried to go to checkout, no shipping method worked (it kept saying the shipping method I chose doesn't work to my location) except when I chose express shipping, which was $40.

Don't stop there! Contact the store directly via email! Oftentimes the shopping cart software can't select the best method of shipment to certain countries.

I have to give some major credit to WWBW. One time a box of reeds got lost in the mail, so I called them...and they sent me a new box! I got both, called them again, and said, "Now I have two boxes." and the operator said, "How nice that you're so honest. However, I'm pretending that this call never happened, if that's ok with you." "Oh, really, I'd like to pay for that second box." "That's not necessary. Have a great day." and she hung up on me!

I've never shopped anywhere else since.

OK, I did, and got a quick reply too. The online shipping claculator works fine. Their shipping to my country start at $40 for orders below $50 and go up from there.

Interesting. I checked with our (www.post.ch) calculator, and for CH->IL it's some 35$ as well when mailed as a parcel, but the same thing as a (thick) letter (<2kg) costs only ~9$.

>> Interesting. <<

Not really :) It's just that they will only ship by express mail. They can ship with other methods but they are not willing to do that. I still haven't found a store in the USA that will ship with more reasonable mail to here. Some more private stores (like The Dcotor for example) will do that but none of the big ones that have what I'm looking for now. Some stores in the UK have more reasonable shipping but otoh their price is much higher.

Not that the regular (non-express) prices are cheap from USA or UK, but I'm used to the low local mail prices. When I shipped something about the same as that harness to USA it cost $2.5 and got there in about a week.

Ben, a 2kg small package (as it's called here) from IL to CH is about the same price as there but not for every weight. 0.5kg small package is about $3 to CH.

tictactux 20$ at 1Stop Clarinet and Sax Shop for shipping to Iceland 5 boxes of reeds(5 reeds/box) is not cheap and the funny thing is that the shipping cost is 44$ for 10 boxes so buying 5 boxes two times is more cheap. When I ordered 2 boxes of Xilema reeds and 6 mouthpieces to test from Redwinejazz I only had to pay 7$ for shipping and I only had to pay for the mouthpieces that I keept after I had choosen them not before.

It's not like it's more than 3 times more expensive to ship clarinet reeds from USA to Iceland than UK.

Apparently, different companies have different price calculations - some have the handling charge built-in into their product price and compensate with "at cost" shipping fees, others have low low prices and add the handling (and whatever else they want) to the shipping price (eg those with 99¢ products and £150 shipping over at That Auction Site).

I always compare total cost. Sometimes company A gets the nod, sometimes it's company B. But in most cases it's cheaper than here.

Muncy winds is one of the best places to order. In my experiences, the staff is always pleasant and knowledgeable. They are always extremely helpful. Their service and prices are great. They have great stock. They are really top notch all around.
