There are quite a few very good "beginner" mouthpieces out there from different great custom mouthpiece makers. The ones that are talked about the most are:
Fobes - Debut
Hite - Premiere
Gennusa - Intermediate
Behn - Overture
Pyne - Polycrystal
I have only the Fobes Debut, I think it is very very good indeed. Could you compare these with the Debut in term of sound, characteristics and build quality? Which of these have you tried and which do you like?
Thanks!

Juvenile testosterone poisoning causes every male beginner to do a javelin thrower or sword fighter imitation with his clarinet and jam the mouthpiece into the wall at least twice during the first year. His parents will want a CHEAP new mouthpiece NOW.
For this, the plastic Vito that's stocked for $20 in every instrument store is the way to go. It's amazingly good and will play nicely for even the rawest beginner. I wish I could have started on one, rather than a beat-up Goldentone.

I have both the Fobes Debut and the Hite Premiere. Blindfolded I probably couldn't tell them apart - they look and feel like twins. (Then again, I might be too dense to notice subtle differences)

"...jam the mouthpiece into the wall... the plastic Vito that's stocked for $20..."
I had a Vito (Eb) mouthpiece and it was good, until the kid who borrowed it from me did the sword imitation thing and broke it Another just as good if not better mouthpiece for $20 is Yamaha (at least here, possibly the only cheap but reasonable mouthpiece in stock, or at least much easier to find than the Vito).

I did that javelin thing with my 5RVlyre on my metal clarinet at a football game. Never again will I try to do a rifle toss like the colorguard!
I agree that the Fobes Debut and the Hite Premiere sound and feel alike.

I have Hite's on all my instruments. Primier's on my clarinets & alto sax and 124 on my bass clarinet. For the playing that I do (community band & pit orchestra), they're great for me and don't cost an arm & a leg.
