 Newbie looking for help

I recently started the clarinet (I am an mainly oboist however I do play sax), I did my research and pick out a clarinet that wasn't too much and could get the job done. I settled on an Henri Selmer Series 9 (being a jazz clarinet fan and a proud player of their saxes). The clarinet came with a jazz mouthpiece and I'm currently playing on rice royal #3 reeds. Since the clarinet does not have undercut tone holes and a large "jazz" bore I am looking for a mouthpiece, reed, and barrel set up to help me "tone down the jazz" and make it more of a "legit" horn where I can still play classical music on it. I hope you guys can steer me in the right direction.

You might try a Vandoren 5RV for your mouthpiece, and Vandoren V12's for reeds. 3.5 would probably be best but if you haven't played clarinet before, you will need to work up to the reeds.

Walter Grabner's K14 mpc is a great match for my series 9. I wouldn't change the barrel.

I'd keep the barrel on this clarinet (excellent choice) and then select a mouthpiece with a longer lay and closer tip opening (both suggestions above are good). Take the reed strength up to 3.75 (I can't play most 4's out of the box ... God bless those who can).

This is just in response to your question. Fact is, really, you can play "legit" on what you've got for a set-up now *CUZ* as everyone will say, the style is mostly what's in your head and how you articulate that with the equipment.
