I'm searching for that great chamber sound for the wonderful Brahms pieces for clarinet....what mouthpieces have others used?

My guess........softer, less edgy. I love the custom wood mouthpieces by Greg Smith. The facings on all his mouthpieces are incredibly consistant, so you can compare a Kaspar of the same facing in ebonite to the wood version. He has African Black Wood, Cocobolo and a cool looking Indonesian wood whose name escapes me at the moment. All wonderful.

I hate to be the Debbie downer, but it may be more beneficial for you to try to produce this sound with your current setup rather than spending time money and energy looking for a solution through equipment.
Now if you absolutely must change something, a cocobolo barrel can help sweeten and round your sound. Talk to Allan Segal http://www.clarinetconcepts.com/

Here is a link used in another thread that gives you the answer. Stephen Fox makes beautiful copies.

Bear in mind I haven't tried many mouthpieces compared with the veterans that people this sight, but I do use a late sixties Buffet r-13 A and
recently purchased a Walter Grabner aw which I would claim outperforms my old Kaspar 13 by a substantial margin. I've dubbed it My Awesome Prince of Darkness mouthpiece. I certainly don't have the sound that you seek yet, but the fault lies not in the mouthpiece but in yours truly.

Greg Smith's mouthpieces ARE phenominal. It's one of those mouthpieces that I fondly remember and regret selling. And he uses and works with buffet clarinets a lot, so I'm willing to bet that his mouthpieces are playtested and made ON buffet R13s. Which means they'll be a good match for your bore. And as an added bonus (for an added price of course), last I looked he will offer to send a chadash barrel that he has matched to that mouthpiece. One that I guess enhances it's (already) great playability.

Aaaah, the matched Chadash barrel with the Greg Smith mouthpiece was an amazing combo on the R13!!!! I still salivate at the memory of that sound. I did, however have some intonation issues in the throat notes due to voicing and ultimately I am MUCH happier on my Yamaha CSGs.

By the way, the Smiths are great on any French clarinet.
