 Yamaha bass clarinet mouthpiece

Hi

What is everyone's opinion on Yamaha bass clarinet mouthpieces? They are the only student model (or rather student model priced) mouthpiece we have locally afaik. This is for an excellent saxophonist who wants to double on bass clarinet and is using a bass clarinet he borrowed for a while before he decides if he buys a good bass clarinet. He doesn't need the best mouthpiece only a decent one. The stock mouthpiece is terrible.

What are the differences between 3C, 4C, 5C? I've tried 4C on saxophones and it is very good but I don't know the differences between models. Can I assume the bass clarinet mouthpieces are as good as the saxophone mouthpieces (which are pretty good)?

Thank you!

For stock mouthpieces (plastic, no less) the Yamaha 4C and 5C are not too bad on bass clarinet. But if they were mine I'd of course reface them! :)

My Yamaha 221 II bass clarinet came with a 4C mouthpiece and I found it OK at best - it seems to work better with harder reeds.

For an inexpensive option you can't go wrong with a Fobes Debut, which I bought after comparing it with a Selmer C* and finding they perform comparably. I also like the results I get with a Vandoren B44, but use softer reeds (2-3) than they recommend.

Thanks Dave and Mark. Sounds like they would be just fine for the purpose. I just wanted to see if they are worth considering since it's the only local option for inexpensive mouthpieces afaik.

Mark, I'm familair with the Fobes Debut (and other student mouthpieces) but we don't have them locally and ordering any of them wouldn't be cheap.
