Grand Concert Select H Ligatures vs Harrison

Many have wondered whether the newer rico grand concert select ligatures have the same build quality of the extremely popular harrison ligatures. I've provided some pictures for those that can only see the ligatures from the internet.

The harrison ligature is the silver (alto sax) and the gold ligature is the rico version.

build quality: the rico copy has much of the aspects of the original harrison down except the critical part of the "H" where there is supposed to be a more definite triangular "^" bend in the middle. I had to bend the ligature by using two plyers and just lightly created the bend. Also, the middle section has a concave hole in the original, however the concavity isn't deep in the rico version, putting more dampening in the reed. Because harrison ligatures were hand made, there was more attention to detail. Also as pointed in the pictures, note the thickness of the H is much thicker in the rico copy (due to heavier plating) then the harrison ligature. the plating makes the ligature much more durable as well as stronger. the harrison ligatures had a tendency to break because of the thinner metal.

If you are going to buy this ligature, you will need to do some modifications. in the middle by bending the H and sanding down the middle to create a concave space.

Also, as other posters have noted in the past don't buy the silver clarinet ligature as it doesn't have as much warmth as the gold, which goes true with the older harrison ligatures.

I just got the lig so i'll update about the sound.

My current lig: BG super revelation - rich, even, controlled yet powerful classical sound.
