For doublers in the Washington, D. C. area, the 31st International Saxophone Symposium begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, January 18th and continues through Saturday, the 19th, at George Mason University's Fairfax, Virginia campus. This is an outstanding annual event, with nonstop concerts, master classes and lectures in four different venues all day on Saturday. The U. S. Navy sponsors the festival, which is free of charge to musicians. Details on the website:

Thanx for turning the address into a usable link, David--I forgot to add the code. See you there! I'll be at the festival on the 19th and will definitely go to the Eddie Daniels jazz clinic.
It's going to be hard to decide between some of the other events occurring simultaneously. For instance, a David Dees recital conflicts with Claude Delangle's recital/masterclass. David Dees isn't a household name, but I've heard him play at the festival in previous years and he's outstanding. Jamie Aebersold's jazz clinic conflicts with good recitals and a Timothy E. Roberts masterclass. It's worth looking out for last minute announcements, too. Last year, when a scheduled performer had to cancel, guest Philippe Geiss gave a bass sax recital!
