Hey Everybody,
What can you tell me about these old Martin clarinet ligatures? They seem to work really well. Is it the material or design--or both?

No, I didn't find any Martin Lig patents [via cited-reference searching], so I conclude that, if patented, was prob. a FR pat, will look in the Canadian pats, where it might also have been filed. I recalled that I have an OLD Martin bari sax mp which has "Martin, Hand craft, Elkhart Ind " on a shield on its back. The [large] lig has, on its back, PAGE NY, and is a "pressure plate" type with a large thumb-screw for tightening, just like my H&A Selmer Paris Bb sop lig, which I believe has an [expired] US pat, will post # if asked. The stamp actually looks like this:

MARTIN
FRANCE
This is enclosed in a sideways diamond shape. (I think that's called a tetrazoid--or some geometrical term like that)

I'll seen a few for sax and just as Susie says "just an ordinary ligature" from my recollections. The diamond logo was the same.

I see to recall that these were made of nickel silver rather than plated brass as is the case with the newer ligatures.

Got one in a junk box. But ... M. Martin made some interesting things, and an old M. Martin "Master Model" mouthpiece I had sold for many hundreds of dollars.

Hi. Yes, they do seem to be very ordinary in appearance. But for some reason, they seem to work so much better for me than nearly all the others out there. I really cannot explain it. 'Suppose it's just some strange quirk that I have.
