Is there any way of preventing water building up in my Buffet basset horn? After about 10 minutes of playing, I can no longer get the throat Bflat. I use cigarette papers and a compressed air blower to keep the keys free, but such solutions usually only last for a couple of minutes. All the problems seem to be concentrated on that pesky double register mechanism, and I am wondering if perhaps the pads are not lifting enough. Would it help to make a channel of oil around the chimneys? I also wonder why this happens on the basset horn but not on my clarinets.

At his website, Peter Eaton recommends a small amount of Vaseline. Here is a brief discussion from a couple of years ago:

I have found that swabbing a small amount of bore oil through my clarinets changes the "tracks" and will often solve the problem of water running through a troublesome area. Maybe this could be helpful if you haven't already tried it...

Good luck! I feel your pain!
