I know that most people have a positive opinion on the Doctor's Power Barrel, so how does the new Poullath Barrel compare? The aluminum barrel is said to increase playing volume. Is that true?

I just wanted an extra barrel for my C Buffet Albert. I got two from Poullath, one delrin and one aluminum. I really didn't think the aluminum one would be any different, but a surprising side effect was that it was, in fact, louder. I don't know why, but it seems to project more volume. The delrin was fine and seems to perform just like the original wooden one, but the extra loudness of the aluminum barrel was a surprise.

If it's possible, I encourage you to have a musical friend listen to you try the different barrels in a large performance space. Have your friend go to the back of the hall and listen to how you sound. You see, volume isn't necessarily the same thing as projection. For example, I have some jazz saxophone friends who play on high baffle metal mouthpieces. They sound quite loud in the immediate area. However, if I walk to the back of the performance area in some cases their sound drops part way in the room. The right idea is to have your sound project all the way to the back. This is where having a friend listen to your playing can be very helpful.
Good luck!
Roger
