Has anyone written a letter of recommendation for a green card?

Has anyone written a letter of recommendation for someone trying to get a green card? A very fine (professional) player in London wrote me asking for one so that he can apply for a green card under the EB-1 Eligibility. I know this player personally so this is a real request.

(EB-1 is excellence in the arts)

Wondering what they would look for in a letter like that, how stringent they are, etc.

A classical Saxophone player I know (from Germany) was given EB-1 so he could work in NY/USA, and it was very difficult to get. His letters of rec included one from the Berlin Philharmonic (with whom he had performed a number of times). They want to know that the applicant is so good that they will stand out above the crowd as being of a standard that is internationally significant.
i hope that's some help

David,

Your friend is going to need an immigration lawyer in the US.

www.leavyfrank.com is probably the best firm in the country for such matters. I came into contact with this firm as i was contracted to set up some concerts to show artistic fulfillment for some foreign clients.

These guys have handled a lot of musician friends of mine, symphony players, mongolian opera singers etc. Ed Leavy is a great benefactor of classical music here in DC. He is a personal friend of mine.

Perhaps he has some info available, or you could forward this name to your friend. EB-1 status is difficult to obtain.

If you wish to contact me offline, feel free!!!

Thanks,
Evan R. Solomon

Thanks Evan!!! I wasn't sure how to go about or even what they would like to see written in that letter.

Once your friend has an attorney, the attorney will come up with a basic outline for your letter including phrases you might want to use, re-worded of course. Also the attorney will specify what topics need to be addressed. It's pretty simple really. My GF needed one for her artist visa and that's how it worked for her. It's a real pain, I'm afraid, for good people to immigrate to this country. Good luck to your friend!
