well now i'm really confused. i looked at past posts & overhauls these days seem to be a lot more expensive than the last time I had them done. i'm visiting my parents in victoria canada for christmas & was hoping to have overhauls done once i get back home.

can anyone recommend a good repairman for an overhaul in the $200 range?

I don't know anyone in that area but just some suggestions on keeping costs down which seems important to you while still have the best work - you can save some by not doing some cosmetic "repair" like some cleaning and buffing. People here rarely want keys buffed so I have no idea if it is important to you. I also have no idea about USA repair prices so I don't know how much these cosmetics will save you. What I can say is don't just go to someone who is less expensive. I suggest to find out you are giving your clarinet to someone who is very good and trustworthy.

Reedgal,

An experienced technician may charge you up to $500 to overhaul your clarinet. As outrageous as that may seem, you would find (hopefully) that the instrument would be in better condition than when you first bought it.

You could send it to the Woodwind Brasswind www.wwbw.com or Weiner Music and both would do a good and inexpensive job.

If you don't mind shipping,I'd recommend Rick Sayre(Chicago).

Excellent workmanship at very reasonable price.

The best work I've seen on a clarinet is Tim Clark in Ohio. In my opinion it is definitely worth sending your horn and paying more money for one of Tim's overhauls. It may cost more than you would like to spend, but your clarinet will play better than ever.

I suggest contacting Brad @ Northwest Winds in Seattle

12308 Lake City Way NE
Seattle, WA 98125
(206) 362-7211

He's not quick, though - you should plan to drop it off on your way up to Victoria and pick it up on your way back. It's just off I-5 at Northgate/Lake City.

Michelle
