I recently looked back at the Buffet serial numbers to recheck my R13 'born-on date' cross reference. As an 87XXX, it was born in the mysterious 1964-66 window which states that these years cannot be traced - othe rthan to say 1963 ended with 78093 and 1967 picked up with 93204.
Does anyone know the history of why this is so? Were records lost due to catasrophe? Business change? Some other reason? I'm curious...

the years from 64 thru 66 were the Beatle years ,even in Franc . Those were the years the people at Buffet decided they were going to go after Richenbacher ,not the Ace. Little is known about the product they actually produced ,except that the remnants were disposd of as inconspiculously as possible. They obviously did a good job.
Buffet covered this up by circulating the backstock of horns from the early sixties and making no mention of the endeavor. If you happen to come across a guitar at an antique
and collectable show made of grenadilla buy it.Buffet pays quite a premium for those examples.
