 Tuner

Hi

My tuner died and I'm looking for a new one. Mine is called Sabine MT9000 and it was fine. I'm probably going to get a Korg because I heard they are reliable and just today I saw they have them at the store that I have a discount.

Any other ideas to look for something else or just get the Korg and forget about it? I saw two Korgs and found them on WW&BW too.

I'm probably going with this one (which here costs about x2 times than WW&BW price) http://www.wwbw.com/Korg-CA30-Chromatic-Tuner-i70341.music

There is also this one which I'm not sure what the big advantage is so the high price (costs here about x1.5 than WW&BW price) http://www.wwbw.com/Korg-OT-120-Orchestral-Tuner-i750698.music

Thanks!

My CA30 is a trusted friend! Look on "the auction site" for a lower price.

The 120 has preprogrammed historic temperaments in I think.

I have the CA-30. I've dropped it at least 20+ times, and although the front is no longer solidly attached to the back it still works perfectly.

...and another vote for the CA-30 (and the MA-30 metronome). The TM-40 looks interesting, too (combining both a tuner and a metronome)

I use the TM 40, and so does my daughter. We each own one. Half of the people in my band seem to have the 30 model, and the rest have the 40 with the built-in metronome. Of course, there ar ethose who have no tuner or metronome at all, but they sound like they never use them, either! I like having both in one case together.

TM-40 is a great piece. It has a metronome with a wide variety of beat patterns and a Tuner plus 12 note chromatic drone. The Tuner display also shows how many "cents" represent a major and minor third.

The only downside - it is not the loudest metronome. If you wail at full volume, you won't hear it. There is an earphone jacket though.

Thanks!

I'm probably getting the CA30 (I don't need a metronom).

Thanks for the eBay suggestion. I looked there and found them much cheaper. I asked several sellers for shipping costs and it might be cheaper to order from there even with shipping.

Hi, Clarnibass,

Here's the real deal-maker: The CA30 is the only tuner I've found that will reliably pick up notes at the bottom end of my bass clarinet.

Hello, Clarnibass:

I definitely go along with the overwhelming vote for the CA30 (or TM-40 if you want the combo unit). I'm the Equipment Manager/Librarian for our community band and we have about half dozen different tuners, including a CA30. The CA30 is by far the easiest to use, virtually indestructable, and most sensitive tuner of the lot.

The only problem I have with it is also shared by every other tuner make and model that I have tried - as Low_Reed pointed out, it will not reliably pick up very low notes. I have yet to find a tuner that we can use with the tuba and timpani.

for tuba and timpani a Peterson V-SAM or older VS-1 may work. I just got a VSAM myself from that particular unmentionable place. They are a tad expensive (and much bulkier) compared to the above models. I also have a Korg CA-30 and Sabine MT9000

What would the CA-30 do with an external clip-on mic or a pickup?

Golly, Ben, I tried the CA30 with a mike . . . it certainly made it a lot better for picking out one instrument to tune while the rest of the band is honking & squawking, but it didn't seem to extend the range of the tuner toward lower notes than the internal mike could detect. Eu

Steve, I'll check out those Petersons. Thanks for the tip. Eu
