 recording clarinet again

My daughter and I are going to record more clarinet pieces.

We're looking for music, with guitar chords.

The way that I tune to her clarinet is either by playing bar chords and transposing up 3 frets, or by putting a capo on the 3rd fret (3 1/2 steps up from EADGBE) and playing normal open chords, or with one of my guitars that can handle it, actually tune down 9 1/2 steps and mic the guitar to avoid the fret buzz and jangliness.

A few of her band books (she's on the 2nd/3rd "Excellence" books and we also have "A new tune a day" have guitar chords for the short pieces, but we're looking for either longer pieces which we can loop, or maybe even whole songs.

Any ideas or links on the web, or books to buy? Thanks!

If you don't mind Klezmer and folklore, try out http://www.stifterhof.de/ and click on "start". Most have accompaniment chords along with the (transposed) score.

I bet there's a ton of other 'rangements out there.

thanks, that definitely has all the musical info we need, but we're not familiar with that content. I guess we're first looking for the complete tunes that the band and beginning books have fragments to, like jingle bells, on top of old smokey, etc. etc.

http://www.SmartMusic.com has back ups for all the Excellence series and around 500 concert band charts. There are also ~35 beginning jazz chart sound tracks and the Aebersold and Rubank books. The subscription costs but you get a mike for your instrument and the software tells the player if the time or note is wrong, slows down the piece for woodshedding, and in some school districts grades the performance. The student can do it over and over until they get the score they want and then they send it to the teacher for the grade.

Thanks, interesting web site, we don't do that kind of learning where we play into mic's for note analysis, but would like to find music in dual keys, key of C (piano and guitar) and key of easy Clarinet.

Thanks.

Something sounds a little odd here. If you're transposing up 3 frets, then your guitar is in Eb. If that puts you in tune with your daughter's clarinet, then it must also be in Eb (Kinder clarinet?).

For a standard Bb soprano, you should be able to detune each string one full step (DGCFAD) and play along with any of the thousands of key of C piano/guitar song books that are out there (you can both play the parts as written).

You should be able to detune the strings without the need to change your setup or sound significantly. I keep at least one of my guitars tuned like this permanently. I have two friends that play professionally (solo acoustic/vocal) who always play with this tuning as it fits their vocal range better.

If you get fret buzz you can move up to the next heavier gauge strings, and that should solve any problems. Some players prefer the sound of the guitar when tuned this way.

Yes, I've been getting myself confused and am getting my woodwinds confused. I have been playing with a sax player who is in Eb, but my daughters clarinets are Bb.

Are you sure that the Bb and concert generic C piano guitar music can work together?

Reason is that trying to play duets (2 Bb clarinets) with 2nd part on the piano, it didn't work unless I transposed.

Does this make sense? I will try to find some key of C music and see if the Bb clarinet sounds right with a standard tuned guitar/piano.

Also, yes, can play 1 step down (often my standard guitar tuning) with Bb clarinet.

Thanks!

If you detune 1 whole note as Mark mentioned, yes.

Now, if you could just detune the piano (unless it's electric with a tuning adjustment ...)

It won't.

That's the trick. You read the music as if it's normal (and in any key) and so does your daughter. It ends up being one whole tone flat as compared with what you would hear on the piano, but both will be "flat" together and you can have some fun that wa

Thanks,

This answers many questions. Any suggestions on where to get just plain old C easy (prefer none or few sharps/flats) Christmas music?

Also, for playing with Sax player in Eb, can we also just play C music with my guitar capo'd at 3 frets up, knowing we're playing relatively high or low to the basic music?

Thanks!

This site is pretty good. Click on the carol you want then see what sheet music is available.

Thanks, this is an OK site, but for my purposes requires 2 downloads vs the previous site where melody (claring) and guitar chords are on same page requiring only a single download.
