I have a student working on this and I am really enjoying it despite my distaste for swing/big band music. ¿Is this a stand-alone piece or is it a solo from a longer piece (there's 3 pages of music)? Was it composed or is it a transcribed improvisation? Any other info would be appreciated-I couldn't find much on Google.

I have it on a circa 1948 Benny Goodman album entitled "Clarinet Ala King."
Another GREAT little diddy on the album is "Clarinade."

I have an original edition of the piano reduction (clarinet part + piano part) published by Lafleur & Son and distributed by Boosey & Hawkes London. The copyright notice says it is from 1942. The score also says "as played by Benny Goodman on Parlophone Record R2843".
This has been composed by Eddy (Edward Ernest) Sauter (1914-1981), a composer and arranger who worked for Benny Goodman. My German jazz lexicon by Martin Kunzler has a two page article on Eddie Sauter. I cite/translate from this article:
" Some pieces from the Sauter/Goodman cooperation were small concerti consisting of several movements" . The score says nothing if this is also true for "Clarinet à la King".
Regards from Germany

I recommend the Benny Goodman double CD "Arrangements by Fletcher Henderson, Arrangements by Eddie Sauter":
"This is the Benny Goodman of the with the lush 1940's big band sound and female vocalists like Peggy Lee and Helen Ward. Reissued on LP when the original recordings were only a dozen or so years old, the CD reissue preserves all of the Hi-Fi sound of the original LP's. A must have for all Benny Goodman fans."
Sauter's work was complex and original.

I Googled with the terms:
clarinet a la king
(Plain old characters, no accents)
The top link was to a PDF of the score from Lushlife Music. It seems this may be a teaser for their full arrangement, which lists in their catalog for £25 (Pounds)
There were many other links.
