Are there many teachers nowadays like Leon Russianoff - i.e. advanced level teachers who are not performers?

I'd say that the best free ($) teacher currently is Hans Rudolph Stadler. He was Paul Meyer's teacher and doesn't charge his students for lessons. If they can make it to him, it's free.
He will even offer a money back guarantee that you will get great..... 
He's in Austria if I recall, but not sure and of course you have to already be a hot player in the first place.

Ah, you mean like real serious pedagogues who aren't performing so much that they don't have time for students? I hear that Fred Ormand in Michigan is excellent. Burt Hara is supposed to be great at both teaching and performing. His students have been winning some important auditions lately. Also, there was a guy at Indiana State who is supposed to be a great teacher, but his name escapes me. Of course, all of the great teachers are probably also consummate performers, but it doesn't always work the other way around.

Yehuda Gilad is a fine teacher who doesn't perform a lot as a clarinetist.

claritoot- I think the guy you are talking about at Indiana State University is Dr. John Spicknall. He's retired now, but he was (supposedly) a great teacher, and he studied with Sidney Forrest. The teacher at ISU is now Dr. Sarah Burk.
BUT... imo, I think the best teacher is Howard Klug at Indiana U.

In fact Leon was a performer in his later years...and it was in his recitals that he spoke about how it was a personal triumph for him to express himself musically after so many years of dedicating his life to the teaching profession.
