Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor
Author: swkeess

My community band is searching to buy or rent an arrangement of Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor arranged for solo piano and concert band for our 2008 Gala Concert. A search of my usual sources shows a concert band arrangement, but it does not have a solo piano part. One of our band members suggested that Norsk Musikforlag in Norway has such an arrangement, but when I Googled them I was unable to access a valid website. Does anyone have a suggestion where I could obtain this piece?

Thanks, Susan Keess

Am I missing something here? If, as I assume, the band arrangement is in the same key as the orchestral version, and if your soloist normally reads from the solo part in a performance with orchestra, the orchestral and band solo parts would be identical, and he/she will already have the part.

It seems obvious that the soloist will have the orchestral solo part already, and the Grieg concerto is so popular that the solo part will be readily available.

Sorry to be dense about this, but usually the sheet music websites I've ordered music from state if the music is for solo part and concert band. If it shows just concert band with no other information then I'm not sure if it has a separate solo part or not. I don't know if the band arrangement is in the same key as the orchestral arrangement. I guess I missed the obvious part.

I don't know this arrangement. But I would be very surprised if the standard editions of this concerto used by any soloist were not compatible with the band arrangement.

There might be minor differences, such as how the measure numbering (if any) counts the cadenza, or where the rehearsal letters are. But that's it. They should definitely be in the same key.
