Hi Everyone. Just to discuss the clarinet I just got and am overhauling. It has the serial range in the 43,000 dating it to around 1952 I am guessing. It has the Buffet Crampon logo with made in France under the logo and the cut-outs underneath the 4 pinky finger keys. When I took the keys off, I found R-14 inscribed on the upper joint under the keys. It is not a Carl Fisher clarinet as it just has the Buffet Crampon logo on it. My questions are: I have understood that these clarinets weren't marked and they only had the Buffet logo on them with different keywork that identified the different models, so do I have an unusual clarinet or have others also found a mark on Buffet clarinets of this era? Also, is the R-14 supposed to be a step up from the 13? This clarinet has the exact same key work as any other Bb clarinet in that there are no extra keys. Thanks

What I am saying is that it doesn't have any extra keys like a Buffet 14 is supposed to have according to what I have read. I tried to bring up the pictures, but I am not getting anything from other threads. I am obviously not an expert on what all clarinets look like but what exactly is a Buffet R14 as compared to a regular R13? Explain it to me in layman's terms. I have clarinets with an articulated g# etc., and so I do know what extra keys look like. The clarinet that I have has R14 imprinted in the wood, but you have to take off the trill keys to see it. Do you think it's actually an old pre Caree R-13 because of not having extra keys since you have to look to find the R-14? Did all those old Buffets have markings like that or is mine unusual? Can anyone tell me if they have found anything like that on their old Buffets? Thanks.
