This for Clarinet and Bassoon with String Orchestra and Harp.
I've just been handed a copy to sight read and find it quite difficult, bordering on the inscrutable.
Does anyone have any comments on this piece?
Thanks

I love it to bits, though I can't play it.

"and apart from the disgusting use of sharps"
Hence the reason why I'm struggling with it.

thanks, I'll have another look at it from the bear/princess imagery
meantime, it reminds me a bit of Strauss' Death and Transfiguration. (mine!)

How's that Bob? Oh, you mean it will either kill you or you'll be a better clarinetist afterwards?
I (as I'm sure many here did) saw Loren Kitt performance this with ????? at with the National Symphony Orchestra back at Clarinetfest in 20??

Good luck Afendi!
The Chicago Symphony recording w/ Larry Combs and David McGill (I think) is supposed to be a good one.

Is that like making a silk purse out of a pig's ear?
It's still in pig's ear form for me, though like any Richard Strauss it's well worth the effort and something to keep anyone occupied with.

Naw, i thought about the allusion to me dying of the Strauss, and that recalled the difficult (to make musical) clarinet work in his Death and Transfiguration --where the clarinet is to be a palpitating, arrhythmic heart beat.
