 What is it?

I've got a small Buffet I'm trying to learn more about. It was made in 1896 (ser#536J) and measures 22" overall. It is contained in a rough condition leather case that appears to be a military or marching band carrying case. I'd like to know what key and it's primary use. I know it isn't the same as my daughter's bflat Buffet but other than that, I only know that it's old and I bought it at an antique shop in West Virginia many years ago.

With the mp???? My Buffet C clarinet is about 21" w/out the mp--24" with. Don't know the meas. of a D clarinet. Your key system may be Albert or earlier. Some other experts out there probably have more accurate and better info, but I hope this helps in some way. Good luck.
