 Need help locating Alvin Swiney

I need anyones help in finding the new address or whereabouts of repairman Alvin Swiney of the Affordable Music Co.
In November of last year I mailed my gold plated Buffet Crampon clarinet (serial# 107920) to him in Virginia Beach, VA for restoration. I have yet to receive my instrument back, and I am becoming concerned because I have been unable to receive any communication from him for the past few months. I recently learned that he has apparently moved to Arkansas and have repeatedly tried calling a phone number that he listed on his web page (501 821 1404), however I have not been able to get a response.

Please, if anyone knows where he resides or has information about where he may be now, please let me know. I am very worried that my clarinet will not be returned to me. Thank you.

My God, that's a terrible story! I haerd from him about a month ago. He replied to a personal e-mail of mine and used his standard (?) e-mail address, which is sfdr@aol.com.

I have a clarinet that is slow coming out of the shop (and from a repairman who I have praised on this board before), so I feel your pain. I don't understand how these guys can justify this level of irresponsibility.

Any techs care to comment?

I, personally, have never done such a thing. I always get my work out within two weeks is possible. Sometimes there is a need to order a part that slows things down a bit. However, I probably don't have the volume of work that some others techs do. I just recently (March) started my own business after working for other shops for 23 years. I usually have 12-15 instruments in the shop at any given time. Sorry to hear about your problem.

A local repairman, who I've know since I was about 15, makes reservations! He's does stringed folk instruments, high end fret jobs etc. Anyway, he'd get the instrument back to me in about 3 days, maybe a week. He knew how important it was to not perform on your back up instrument. I've also had a kind repair man recork a mouthpiece while I went for coffee.

I hope you get your clarinet back soon.

William,

The Affordable Music website at www.corkpad.com is still there. It lists the VA address and phone # and an e-mail corkpad@aol.com You probably have all that info already.

Interestingly enough, though he mentions being a protege of Hans Moennig, etc. the site makes no mention whatever of repair services. Some tech articles, products for sale, not a word about repairs. Maybe that's another site.

Hope you are able to reach him and get your horn back soon!

R

I was able to get in touch with Mr. Swiney today and everything is fine with regards to my clarinet. I am sorry for any misunderstanding, and I appreciate Mr. Swineys efforts and expertise in restoring my clarinet. Thanks so much for the help received from others who tried to help.
