Greg Smith wrote to me and mentioned that the photo diary of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's recent European tour is now posted on the CSO web site.

http://www.cso.org/europe2007/

Clicking on each day (on the right hand column) will show the numerous photos from that day's concert and pre concert activities.

A very interesting glimpse into what it entails to take a major symphony orchestra on tour.

BTW - On Sept. 28th (3rd pic in) while waiting in the airport to travel to Rome, Greg is conversing with a happy Maestro Muti about the sensational reviews that they were getting after the first two concerts (being translated from the Italian press by his valet who’s holding the paper).

Also, a nice photo of Greg giving a mouthpiece presentation at Howarths can be found on the final day (Oct. 6)

And did anyone see Mahler 6? It was AMAZING. Congratulations to all involved!

Thanks for posting this Glenn -

I think that all of the CSO clarinetists are included in the photo journal at various points along the tour....

Best,

I attended the concert in Munich. I'd never heard them live in all my years in the States and now I get to. It was a happy occaision. They played a piece by Schubert, I believe, as Muti announced it and I'm not sure I caught it, as an encore that was sublime.

Did the CSO bring extra clarinet players on the tour? If so, who were they?

"damn. they doesn't come to sweden..."

Possibly because all of the clarinets would crack due to the harsh climate--and Greg said they didn't bring any spares............LOL

BTW, I particularily enjoyed the pics from Rome--thanks to whomever is responsible for the organization and descriptive captions. Very well done.
