RE: A, B, and C (above staff) --bill oflat on R-13

I've never had a problem with A,B or C at the top of the treble staff with any R-13s; however your instrument may have a crippling diameter of the vent tube (!?), or perhaps the vent tube needs a pipe-cleaner run through it (?). I think the idea of a shorter barrel may be a short-term (sic) solution. You might check the opening of the register key to see if it is too slight. Now, if your refering to the altissimo A, B and C (fifth and sixth ledger lines, which I don't think your are) try opening the left-hand index side G-sharp key on the B and C. The altissimo A can be tuned by useing either the right-hand C, C# or E-flat key, although
the right hand C key is usually the best. Hope your problem is solved easily. Sincerely, Earl Thomas

Earl, you took the words right out of my mouth, never heard of those pitches going flat on ANY horn/brand I've ever palyed on in 25 years. I definitely think Bill has some gunky holes he just needs to unclog.

And unclog I shall! But really, these notes on my clarinet are noticably flat. I know that they're supposed to be, if anything, on the sharp side. Brymer says "flat as you go down toward the bell and sharp as you go up toward the barrel."
