My wife and I went to the Iridium in New York to hear the great Eddie Daniels perform tonight.
Absolutely amazing; Eddie played clarinet (Leblanc with the Backun Barrel and Bell) and tenor (Super Balanced Action) and was remarkable; completely a dynamic presence with flawless time, a gorgeous velvety tone, and remarkable facility.
The band (David Finck on bass, Tom Ranier on piano, and Lewis Nash on drums) was wonderful, a combination of virtuosity and true feeling.
In particular, the Gordon Goodwin tune, "Under the Wire" was a demonstration of Mr Daniels unique spot in the clarinet world, with the combination of written virtuosic ensemble passages, burning uptempo improvisations, and amazing cadenzas.
For those of you in the New York area, I strongly recommend that you check out this great band tomorrow night (Sunday, 10/21, 8 and 10 pm) at the Iridium (Broadway at 51st Street.)
Special guests were advertised for each night, but tonight was strictly Eddie and the Band, which was plenty; on Thursday night though, the guests were Randy Brecker and Chris Potter, so there could be some surprises tomorrow night.

Any chance Eddie would be playing next week? or is there somewhere I could go to check? Thanks! Seeing him perform would be spectacular!

Yes, the engagement at the Iridium is ending tonight; in fact, he should be playing the 10:00 set right now as I type this.
But check the Website definitely; believe me, you should absolutely hear the man play live if at all possible.

Man, I'm really upset that I missed this! Chris Potter is absolutely amazing. I would love to hear him play alongside Daniels.
