I recently had my R-13 repadded with new cork pad upper joint and leather on lower. I love the sound, however the repairman used a piece of cork to go between the two keys that rock together when using the left pinky key C. The clarinet is about 8 years old, and I didn't buy it new, so I don't know what was originally used, but I think it did have cork when I bought it. It came out right before I had it repadded. The rocker arm when it pivots cuts into the cork and I loose the back piece. When that happens the C pad leaks the tiniest bit (and the left had pinky key angle drops down), so it doesn't speak well unless I'm putting a lot of air into the horn and pressing hard enough to bend a key. (That is if I'm lucky and if not, I squeak or the sound closes off) I used my leak light before I started playing this time and by the time I finished it was starting to cut through the cork material again and had started to show the leak again. Aarrhhh!!!!! I used my left C key a lot in what I'm playing right now, so this is driving me nuts.
I've been back to the repairman twice and he fixes it, it lasts for a few hours, then it happens again. He hasn't charged extra and he's been very good about adjusting this, but after this last time I realize that perhaps there is a better material to use. I'm sure he'll fix it again if I go back, but the question is what kind of material should be used to fix this. I think maybe I can do this myself if I know what to buy and save myself the time and gas.
Any suggestions.

ferree's tools sells a synthetic product that doesnt compress - i use that on all my repairs now, and it lasts months...

There are a few materials to look into. Bondable Teflon and synthetics might be good here. Thin leather might work too. As for me, I avoid cork in all possible situations due to problems like you are having and others.

If the pad is leaking then you'll need to have that reseated as that's not an issue with the spongy connection cork.
The link from the RH F/C key to the LH F/C lever should have a piece of gasket cork or similar glued to it as this will prevent the LH F/C lever chewing through it. Natural cork is useless in linkages like this as there's too much force exerted on too small an area, as it is on the thumb ring to LH 1 ring link.

I use a black memory foam on that key and this will virtually last forever.
