i decided that since everyone is so hot on this product i would buy two of them. i called three of the catalog stores and they are all sold out and have them on back order. So i placed an order for two #3 which will be shipped in about two weeks. Be careful of shipping charges. The store i picked will add $2.50 for shipping and the other two store wanted over $5.00.
Will let you know how i like the reed once they are received.

I tried a 3 3/4 legere reed. I found it quite good at first. However after playing with it for a while, I found that it became pretty soft during practice. Does anyone have any views abt it?

Jon it was suggested to rotate at least two reeds. Let one dry out and play with the other. Thats why I'm ordering two

I did the same thing you did. I bought a 3 and a 3.5 Legere. Even with the rotation, these reeds are soft. If you play on a number 3 cane reed, I would go to a number 4 Legere. I'm getting ready to order a couple of 4's, as I have managed to pawn off the number 3's to family members.

I just ordered several legeres from the Woodwind and Brasswind website (www.wwandbw.com). I don't know when they'll be shipped, but they're carrying the reeds for $12.50 each and have a free shipping special going on if you order from their website.
I am a big fan of these reeds - just put it on your mouthpiece and play! Honestly, they require no breaking in. I think that rotating them is a good idea, though, which is why I've ordered more.

They are listed on Sneezy.org. They sell at $15.00 per reed. I mailed a check for 2 reeds plus $2 for postage. Received the reeds in less than 10 days.
I believe you can also order reeds in 1/4 strengths -- i.e. 3 3/4 strength.

The last time I ordered from WW&BW it took about three weeks. They said they the Legere's were on back order and it would take 6 weeks. I was surprised to get it so soon. Legere reeds are great on my bass clarinet, especially when most of the concerts I play in are outdoors, the weather doesn't effect them. After using one for about 3 months, I find the consistancy of the reed in incredible. I need to order another one.

I have been using a 3.5 for six weeks. I am absolutely amazed at the quality and consistency. I was also very impressed by the service from the company when a second reed that I ordered came warped and wouldn't play at all. They replaced it right away no questions asked. You definitely need to rotate them. I find I can't get through a 2 hour rehearsal without the reed going too soft. I, too, have ordered a 4.0 to see if the harder reed holds up better. The amount of time I've saved not fooling around with cane reeds in the summer has really been impressive. I wouldn't have believed these could play without trying one!

Not really. They all go soft by about the same percentage.

After using Legere reed for about three months on my bass clarinet, I also found they go soft after and hour or two of playing. Try adjusting the reed by pushing it up slightly, just past the tip of the mouthpiece. This seemed to help for me. I also found that if it isn't positioned just right I get a buzzing sound. Now that I have found the exact positon of the reed on the mouthpiece it has gotten me through 2 hours of rehersal with no problems. I am totally impressed, however I haven't tried them on a soprano clarinet. I have already saved bucks on reeds. Hope this helps.

I am also a big fan of Legere reeds. I agree with all the aobe comments about rotating reeds after an hour or so of playing, moving them up a bit to keep then strong, etc.
Here my own set of tricks: I have tried close to 100 Legere reeds (they are all a little bit different). I finally settled to strength 4 (about 3.5 Vandoren V12 equivalent). I bought about 30 of these reeds, from which I selected 6 for daily use (because 6 is what I can fit in my excellent reed case from International Music - flat glass surface is key). In other words, I am using the top 6% reeds out of an extensive trial process. My reeds are simply excellent.
If you are interested in Legere, try more than a couple. There are a few perfect reeds for you out there.

Read your interesting post regarding Legere reeds. I've used them off and on for about 4 months now. When I get a good one, it is very good. A real joy to play. But most of the ones I've purchased (about 15 reeds) have varied in strength and playability! I have not been storing them on a glass plate. What brand of reed case are you using? And what do you do with all of the less than ideal reeds which you purchase? Do you return them to Legere and use their exchange policy?
