I have a question about how to determine whether I have an E11 or E12 (well, my cousin, actually).
I purchased what I was told was a 1983 E12 #243XXX. It is stamped "Made in W. Germany."
Since the wood on the top joint is very worn down, there is absolutely no stamped marking besides some of the Buffet insignia. The top is almost rubbed smooth.
Once my music store told me they thought it was an E11 (due to the common case and # of E11s vs. E12s), I got curious. I contacted the seller, and he/she told me that it was an E12 because of the LACK of marking - that the E12, E13 and R13 don't have the model stamp: but I know that current E12s and E13s DO have the model stamp.
Then, another assumption I have heard was that E12s were NOT made in W. Germany, only E11s.
Since I do not have the clarinet in my possession, I'm not able to add pictures, but I could get some soon if someone thinks it will help. But I know that there are no markings-no model marking where it should be - just the serial number and W. Germany. Since the difference between E11 and E12 is in the bore, the key structure should remain the same, I think.
Please let me know what you can.

All the student Buffets carry the model name on the top joint - B10, B12, E10, E11 and E12 are made in Germany, from the E13 upwards they're made in France. The R13 doesn't carry the model name.
The E12 is listed in Buffet's catalogue, but the description is the same as an E11 so it's hard to say what the differences are between them.
