This was sent to me by Edna Huang, and I am passing it along. I know I will never forget her or what she taught me about life.
Hello friends,
My dear dear friend and clarinet teacher at Boston University and Boston Conservatory, Julie Vaverka, passed away on Friday, October 5th. She had been battling breast cancer for a couple years and although we were very hopeful with her treatment in Philadelphia, her health took a turn for the worst in July when she found out that her cancer had spread.
Take care,
Edna
Sincerely,

My sympathy on the loss of your friend. The name sounds so familiar I am thinking that I read it recently somewhere, perhaps in regards to Charles Neidich. Is this possible? An enselble perhaps?

Julie was a wonderful musician, teacher, and person. I only had the chance to study with her for a few months last year, but she forever changed my philosophies of playing the clarinet and music in general--after just a couple of weeks, I felt like I'd been studying with her for years. She will be sorely missed.

Although my contact with Julie during my time at Boston Conservatory was somewhat limited, she was influential. This is so shocking to me. I always remember her as so full of energy and life. She was an amazing lady. I expected her to be around forever.

We've lost a wonderful colleague in Boston and she really will be very missed. Julie had an infectious laugh, a big smile and an even bigger heart and Boston won't be the same without her.
We'll be dedicating the concert on Clarinet Day on October 21 to Julie's memory.
