Hi everyone, in my search to buy a nice clarinet to replace the R-13 I had to sell about a year ago :( , I've come across a Buffet model that I had not heard of before. Anyone have some info on it?
It is a Buffet 2-BN Bb soprano clarinet. It appears to have silver keys, and it has a low Eb key. It was manufactured and purchased in the 50s (I believe, possibly 60s) at the Buffet factory in Paris. It looks to be in good condition. The sellers says that it was a pro-level instrument, but I have never heard of that model.
Anyone know anything about these and how they compare to an R-13? I'm looking for any input because I'm going to have to make the decision about whether to buy this or not without having played it (I know, I know, that's always a big gamble....)
Thanks for any info!
Dawn

You might try e-mailing Boosey & Hawkes directly from their website at http://www.boosey.com and see what they can tell you. It is not on their current list of horns.

I just looked on ebay at the photo of the clarinet. It is a full boehm clarinet also identified as an R16 3/4.
One sold on ebay a month or so ago for $2000. I have one myself that I have had for many.many years and find it an enjoyable instrument to play. Whether or not to buy it or not, all I can see is to each his own. There are things you can do with a full boehm clarinet that you cannot do with a "standard" clarinet. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
