Thanks to a fellow bulletin boarder, I now have the parts to the original Artie Shaw big band arrangement of his chart "Man From Mars".
I would like to perform this chart with my own big band, but as usual, the Artie Shaw high register licks, which are certainly possible, become a puzzle of fingering logistics.
The final clarinet lick is a high B6 (held for 2 1/2 beats) and then quickly descending chromatically (Bb6, A6, Ab6, G6, etc...)
I know numerous B6, Bb6 and A6 fingerings, but am open to hearing which fingerings YOU would use for these first 3 notes of this (rapidly) descending passage.
I often wish I could have sat down with Artie for just 5 minutes to ask him how he did these types of runs.
Yeah...I know....PRACTICE
Thanks.

What about:
lc=left f/c
Bb6: RT.XXXlc/XXXEb, A6: RT.OXXlc/OOOEb, Ab6: RT.OXXlc/OXOEb, G6: RT.OXO/XXOEb, F#6: RT.OXO/OOOEb, F6: RT.OXXg#/OOOEb (usw),
work pretty fast with a little pacticing.
These are the best fingerings I know for solid notes in quick chromatic runs.
The combination left f/c-ab/eb give a very solid respons with good intonation given that you play ab6 with the right middle finger. Keep them down for B6: RT.XXOlc/XXOeb and C7: RT.XOOlf/XOOeb too.
My 2 cents,
Alphie

Alphie,
Thanks so much!
That's precisely what I had in mind.
It's good to be reassured that my instinct is at least confirmed by one other person.
Now, if only Artie was able to tell us...
