 K. Baermann Concerti question
Author: vjoet
Date:   2007-09-20 19:05

I've been working up "Karl Baermann, 16 Grand Concert Studies (from Op. 64)" edited by Leonardo Savina and published by Ricordi. Positively excellent as etudes: enjoyable, musical, and well suited to the clarinet. They are a joy.

If I recall correctly (from Weston's "Clarinet Virtuosi of the Past") Karl wrote 4 Concerti, but these have Concerti numbers, 6, 10, 15, 36, 55, 60, 48 & 27.
My teacher looked in two issues of the Baermann Op 64 but finds nothing like these.

Does anyone know of any published source that includes these (and the missing numbers)? I really want more of them!

Best wishes,
vJoe

If I understand you correctly the you are looking for concerts - not the studies contained in Bärmanns famous clarinet tutor.

I didn't find any Bärmann concerti in actual print editions (wich doesn't mean that they dont' exist). Other Carl Baemann scores are available - see this link: https://www.notenlink-shop.de:40101/

There is however an expensive way to get two of his concerts: the editor
André in Offenbach (near Frankfurt/Germany) offers a service that delivers (xerox) copies of older editions, among them "Concerstück op.49" and "Concerstück d-moll op. 44". Both should cost around 150 Euros respectively. I think these editions contain the complete orchestra material as they are specified with ca. 100 pages each. Here is the André link: http://www.musik-andre.de/archiv.php

BTW: when searching for Baermann you should also consider the writings
"Bärmann" and "Carl" instead of "Karl". And don't confuse him with his
father Georg Friedrich Baermann.

Carl Baermann's father was not Georg Friedrich Baermann. He was Heinrich Baermann, one of the most famous clarinettists in Europe in his day. He was a friend of Weber, Mendelssohn and Spohr, and composed a large number of works which are possibly better than those of his son Carl.

Yes, you are right. His father was Heinrich Joseph Baermann.
