 Who made this Bundy Clarinet?
Author: bwilber

I have an older wood Bundy clarinet and if somebody can tell me who made it and about how old it is, I would sure appreciate it.

First, it's a Bb clarinet with extra keys, which I think is a Boehm with a G# key. In the tenon joint on the top section, it has a metal sleeve that fits inside and it has a hole for the extra key on the bottom section. The logo says G.M.Bundy and Paris under that and under that it says Sponsored by Selmer. The serial number is B274. On the bottom keyed section, under the 4 long keys, there are half-moon cut-outs that look a lot like Buffet R-13 cut-outs. Was this made by Selmer or when it says sponsored by Selmer, does that mean somebody else made it and if that is the case, does anyone know who made this clarinet and is it rare? I have never seen one like it on Ebay and I have been looking at clarinets on Ebay quite a while. Thank you for any help that you can give me.

Hi Bonnie, I also have a ?1930's? G M Bundy, Paris, but with some diff's. Ser.# 710, its only added feature is the [3rd finger, left-hand] ring and small "tuning" pad for a "fork" Eb/Bb, and has NO "Sponsored" info. I suggest looking up Selmer's history, as in this time period, I believe Geo. Bundy was setting up Selmer's US "presence". The cl is a fair player, and my guess is that it was adctually made by/with Selmer workers, ?seconds?? My Selmer-Paris R I, [1932] F B, has the Artic. C#/G# and an "auxiliary" touch -lever for it, for 1st Fing. Rt hand, but NO half-moon cutouts for the 3 lower touches. They made all kinds of cl's, perhaps. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

AFAIK the old wood Bundy clarinets were made by Selmer.

Has this Bundy got the flat spring screwed onto the underside of the F#/C# touch (instead of a needle spring from the lower pillar), with the screw going all the way through the touchpiece?

Hi Chris. On the f# touch key, it has a needle spring. Also it has an extra little pad cup between the c and d pads. Does this help identify it? Thank for your help.

I've never seen these early (and French) Bundys before, only read about them on here.

Has this one got the forked Bb mechanism (with a ring for LH 3)? You mentioned there's a small pad cup between the C and D.

This is pretty useful as it allows Eb and Bb to be played as xox|ooo (the small pad cup is raised to bring the Eb and Bb up to pitch while LH 3 is down), so C-Eb is played by just lifting LH 2 instead of the side Eb/Bb key which makes getting around some passages easier, eg. the clarinet solo in 'Dance of the Polovtsian Maidens' where the Bb can be taken as xox|ooo.

Can you post some photos of it?
