I'm currently playing Grainger's Themes From "Green Bushes" on bass clarinet. I know that I've played a band piece based on that theme by some other composer, but I cannot for the life of me come up with the composer or title. Can anybody help me out? Thanks!

Perhaps you're thinking of Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Folk Song Suite for Military Band"? I think it's the second movement which uses the "Green Bushes" tune.

It's from Grainger's "Lincolnshire Posy" - the 6th movement. Same theme.

Ah, everybody keeps telling me Lincolnshire Posy, but I'm positive I've played this piece, and I've never played Lincolnshire. The one I'm thinking of is a lot more legato and a little slower tempo than the 6th movement.
Is that Folk Song Suite the same as the English Folk Song Suite or different? I'll have to check out a recording.

I don't know if this is what you played but "Green Bushes" is indeed in the second movement of Vaughan-Williams' "English Folk Song Suite."
Best regards,

If you've played Folk Song Suite, that's where you recognize it from. As others have stated, there is a little of it in the 2nd movement (the scherzando, I believe). I referenced Lincolnshire Posy, because it is almost identical in style and tempo to the "Themes From Green Bushes" piece- a very fast 3 (conducted in one) with accents on the first beat. Folk Song Suite has the Green Bushes theme, but it is harmonized differently and played much more legato. It's a great tune, and Grainger and Vaughn-Williams do wonderful things with it.
