 Vito V-40 vs 7214

Any thoughts ? I just repadded a V-40 but don't think I like it as well as the 7214 (I regularly play and R-13 and the 7214 seems to "fit" my hand better)

Can you tell the diff between the two?

I also play the same trio regularly. Although there can be differences in construction between the two Vitos I don't really find any discernable differences in their playability or how they feel. The same applies to the Pete Fountain plastic Vito which I also play. They are all good horns.....but still don't equal the R13.

I bought my Vito V-40 in 2003 March shortly before they became no longer produced. I use soft reeds so I thought that it sounded too flat. But at least it is more amenable to shortening the barrel quite a lot and retaining good intonation while going over the break and also throughout without too much undercutting of various toneholes. This is because of the cylinder style of bore, I suppose. Get a custom barrel that is shaped like a cone that gets bigger as it goes downward to really get the most direct kind of emmision of the lower clarion bell tones; but I always like to do that on any other instrument too.
