Hi everyone!
I need some help. Lately I have not been statisfied with my reeds. I play on a Gigliotti mouthpiece, with a P facing, and I usually use Vandoren V12 reeds (4). For a while though, the quality of these reeds has not been great. They are often cut very asymmetrically, and sometimes they are still green. I have heard rumors that they are running out of reed cane in southern France, and they are growing it in South America instead, and they are cutting it prematurely. I have tried working on these reeds, etc., but I am just not satisfied with the sound I am getting with them. I have tried a couple other brands of reeds, but nothing has really worked. Does anyone have another brand to suggest, or a solution to my problem?

Rico is advertising good quality cane and their Grand Concert pro-level reeds are ok. For other than VDs, I have had good sucess with Marca trads. My college in the symphony uses Glotin and sounds great. Good luck--searching for good reeds is always an adventure.

I recently switched to Zonda Classicos from Vandoren Hand Selects, and I'm not regretting it at all! They're more consistent and they have a sweeter sound than the Hand selects, an they're half the price! They run fairly hard at first but settle down after a few days.

I like Grand Concert thick blanks even though I didn't like the normal GC reeds at all. Vintage XL reeds are better than the standard vintage, in my opinion anyway.
