Until I can get my own A clarinet, I have checked one out from my school. It is a Leblanc, serial #321xx. It has a Leblanc Paris marking, and it has a small pendant that looks likes its made out of marble that says L7 above the A key. Does anyone know any history on this horn?

It's a good one. It's a mother of pearl inlay with the L7 engraved in it.
And has NO connection whatsoever with the LA based girl rock outfit that went by the name L7 reknowned for their vulgar stage antics and merchandise. This clarinet has outlasted their short career troubling the charts, and will continue to do so.

The Leblanc L7 (and its successor the L27) are two of the more successful professional model clarinets made by Leblanc. A good one of these is a fine instrument indeed! I used both of them professionally in the 1970s.

I do agree with the above ! My L7 Bb is 43xxx, about 1980 I believe, selected by a fine cl'ist, saxer etc, and along with my Selmer CT, are my 2 best [but differing] cls. Congrats, Don

As far as I can tell, L7's were made in the (late) 1960's through the mid-late 1970's. From its serial number, your school's would appear to be from 1969. In their time, according to Dave Surber, they were Leblanc's top-of-the-line professional model.
If my serial number list is correct, Don, yours would be 1976.

If I'm right in thinking, the L7 may have had the reverse conical bore as did the L27.

a week or so ago i played an L7 Bflat for sale locally, it was an awful horn with terrible intonation (this is AFTER being "fixed up" by a repair tech)
the intonation was WILD
this does not mean that every L7 is bad, just as the postings above don't mean that every L7 is good.
if there's anything i've learnt about clarinets, it's that you have to judge each one on its own merit.

I have a set of Leblanc L7 clarinets, a Bb and A (SN 30xxx). I was told these are professional model clarinets. The quality of play, in my opinion, is similar to the professional Buffet clarinets that I have. Their intonation is very good.
