 bug infestation

I had a phone call tonight from a student in a panic because her clarinet case and clarinet seems to be infested with some sort of bug. They look like tiny white dots-but they move!
The instrument (Buffet RC) is kept next to a piano (which also has some of these bugs on the back). It has been kept in the same place for about a year but the bugs have only just appeared.
I haven't seen the instrument yet but obviously am worried!!

I have never come across this before- what are they?
What can be done to get rid of them?
The clarinet has not been used much recently- have these bugs come from something in the house?
