Hey all, I have a question that I hope some of you that are interested in vintage mouthpieces can help me figure out. I inherited a Kaspar-Cicero mouthpiece from my grandfather when he died many years ago in the Chicago area. I've been trying to figure out exactly what model of a Kaspar mpc I have. There are no numbers anywhere on the mpc. Believe me, I've checked it thoroughly. The only identifying marks on the mpc are that above the Kaspar/Cicero label there is one stripe and below it there are three parallel stripes that begin/end at the table (all four stripes). The other curious item about it is that to the left of the table, at the rear, there is a capital "L" stamped into the rubber. I have taken it to many of my clarinet friends and they could not identify for sure what model it was other than it was from Cicero. The "L" left them wondering also.

Just a guess--could it be that Kaspar custom made this mp for your grandfather and the L stands for "long facing?"

Is there anywhere that I could find more out about this particular mpc or anything that I should be looking for if it is a custom made piece?

You can take all sorts of measurements, but the only true test of a mp is to play it and see how it works for you. Original Cicero Kaspars are in demand and are selling for about $600 if they are good ones. Try it with a few of your reeds--if it plays well for you, keep it, use it, and enjoy the beautiful "Kaspar" sound. If not, sell it here on Marks "Classified" board and let someone else enjoy using it. Good luck.
