 Vandoren Etude Book

Has anyone tried "The Vandoren Etude and Exercise Book for Clarinet, The Secrets of Ten Master Clarinetists?" Carl Fischer, 2005, PB, 109 pages.

It doesn't look like there are any postings yet involving this book. So I thought I would open up the discussion. Here is the product info:

"Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Vandoren Company, Carl Fischer Music has teamed up with ten of the world's finest clarinetists (Eddie Daniels, Paquito D'Rivera, Mitchell Estrin, Gary Foster, Ginger Kroft Barnetson, Greg Raden, Teresa Reilly, Harry Skoler, David Weber, and John Bruce Yeh), to produce a one-of-a-kind etude and exercise book in honor of this special anniversary. Each of these clarinet masters shares his and her inner secrets on how to play the clarinet. This eclectic collection covers Classical, Jazz, and Latin styles as well as etudes to develop tone, technique, lyricism and overall musicianship on the clarinet."

I forgot about this question and let it get past me.

I bought the Vandoren book at the ClarinetFest in Vancouver. To be honest, many of the contributors are folks I don't know, but each one has some good ideas and exercises or etudes to go along with them. D'Rivera's studies all have a great latin flavor. I liked Ginger Barnetson's harmonic drill for voicing technique. The Coltrane solo transcription is also fun and not all that easy.

The book is kind all Vandoren, all the time, but it seems to me to be a useful book to have.

Um...one of those people listed as "ten of the world's finest clarinetists" was a schoolmate of mine who sat in the back of the band, majored in sound recording, and eventually married one of the clarinet professors who is on that list. Said person was/is a very nice person, but not even close to the others on that list.
