 Leblanc case, missing key
Author: eac 2017

I have a couple of Leblanc cases for which I need a key. Not for security but the latches are loose and it would be nice to secure the case closed. Should I just go to a locksmith? Thanks!

I've had the same problem and the fix is just what you suggest. Take the cases to a locksmith and he or she will probably be able to come up with a key pretty easily. You'll be surprised as to how fast the job will get done; a couple of dollars for each key at the most, I think.

These keys are pretty generic.

Find someone else with a Leblanc case who'll give you theirs? If they're anything like the Buffets, it's one key fits all.

But such a hassle to have to unlock the case to access the horn. I've had success with glueing small pieces of Velcro to each side of the case and then using a small piece of "the other" Velcro to hold the sides together. When my waist was smaller a pants belt sufficed.

It's a common thing with these latches - once the springs go they don't stay put and just flap around.

Most people I know that had these Leblanc cases used to carry them with one finger holding the lid. They usually went and bought a zip up case.

It's a shame as they are nicely made cases, but the hardware lets them down.

Chris.

You can go to the local music store and get one. If they are like me, I always have a supply of case keys. People are always losing them. I would always give someone a key at no charge.

For what it's worth, I tried my local locksmith for a key to my Buffet double case. After trying loads of possibilities, they had no success in having a key that would fit the Sudhaus DBGM lock.

Alternatively, you might try a luggage shop. My local music store couldn't help.

You can bend the "tongue" of the latch a little bit with a plier
and it will fit securely.

If this work for you,it'll be simplest solution .
