I just noticed in admin at CDbaby.com that they are offering digital downloads on their site without any DRM restrictions. And the files stay in your account forever so if you loose a track, etc you can re-download it.
The 2 artists that I work with there are Michele Zukovsky and Joze Kotar (Bozza Concerto, Tomasi Concerto CD among others).
Good stuff!!!!
Previously they didn't do downloads at all, only hard copies and had a digital distribution network such as Itunes, etc but most if not all of them had DRM restrictions or were player specific.
not any more

What is the sound quality of the downloads? Can you choose?
The main reason I don't pay for downloaded music is that the quality is brutal (128kbps).
I usually buy CDs but if I must... BitTorrent usually has much higher audio quality than pay services.

I've been quite happy with Fraunhofer's "pro" at 128k.
Okay, I sit in front of the trumpets, that might explain.

I saw that a while back. Pretty cool. I think CDBaby is a great site. They have some great artists and are really good to deal with. Check out the jazz clarinetist Frank Glover- superb playing! For some real fun try the clarinet ensemble, Clarinet Thing- it contains some really wild stuff, very entertaining.

Unfortunately most artists at cdbaby don't know about the mp3 offerings and aren't adjusting the price accordingly (by default it costs the same as the hard copy CD - that can be changed by the artist). So if you see something that you want, but the mp3 is too costly, you may want to write the artist to ask them if they would lower the mp3 price (or tell them about it, they most likely aren't aware of it).
