In the early 1980s were any R13s manufactured with keywork similar to the Evette Shaeffer keys? In particular, the right hand B, F# sliver key? Thanks.

Some Buffet professional clarinets indeed were manufactured with keywork similar (but usually not identical) to the Evette & Schaeffer keys. This happened in the very early 60's and then in the 80's. I believe that only very small percentage of these instruments has been made like this.
In the 60's SOME of R13s had a Leblanc style sliver key on the Lower-Joint besides that there was no difference from the regular R13 (it included the cutouts under the RH pinky keys etc.).

In the 80's SOME of R13s had the same keywork as the E13 and no cutouts. I've personally worked on couple of these instruments so there's no doubt they exist.
Approximately until 1980 ONLY the professional Buffet clarinets had Buffet logo. But since 1980s every Buffet instrument has one. This is very unfortunate situation because someone can remove the "C12" or "E13" marking from the older instrument and say 'it's an R13'. Of course there's still a sign left from this kind of tamper because the serial numbers on these instruments carry the prefix "K". Basically, I would stay away from any R13 with the E13 keywork and no cutouts because even if it's a real R13 it's still a cheaper version that is approximately equal to the E13 or C12.

I've tried to load pics three times. No luck! Also, I emailed the same pics to susieray. They were fine with the email but doesn't load on the BBoard for some reason.

Thanks Mark. I did not know the '#' sign was the problem. Could you fix it?
