 Robert Thibaud Clarinet

I just bought a Robert Thibaud Clarinet off Ebay for $10 and was surprised how good the condition was. It has a stainless steel sleeved hard rubber upper section and the lower section is hard rubber with no sleeve. It says Made in France. I was wondering if this is worth repadding if I do it myself. I have a couple of old Bundys I was planning on using for practice. Is this a better instrument than the Bundy? I bought it to use to make a lamp out of but since it is in good shape I thought it might be a better beater instrument than the Bundy.

If you use the Search [above] for Thibaud, you will find 8+ mentions/discussions. The only "sleeved" cl [U J] I've seen was a Pruefer "Silver Throat", which was a VG playing cl. One post offered the opinion that repair/restoration was worthwhile. Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Don,
my Martin Frères "La Monte" also has a metal-lined upper joint (the horn is hard-rubber).

I read all the posts before posting here. There was very little info other than the fact they existed. I also saw one post in the Oboe section. I did a search on yahoo, google, and dogpile and still nothing accept forsale adds for used ones or ebay stuff. I will give the restore a try assuming I can use the Selmer/Bundy pads I ordered. The original pads were probably ok but they did not survive the 100F heat we have here in the South. It is probably not a good idea to order a clarinet off Ebay right now if you live in the south because it is going to get real hot. This one came from Canada so maybe they were not imported here to the US at all.
