Oh right, I'm an oboist. Goes with the job I suppose!
Oboe 92%
trombone 83% (like the way they put that in lower case!)
Percussion 83%
Flute 75%
Tuba 67%
French Horn 67%
Viola 58%
Bassoon 58%
Cello 58%
Clarinet 50%
String Bass 50%
Trumpet 25%
Violin 17%
So I'm only half a clarinettist! Well, I did study both clarinet and double bass when I was at college, so 50% clarinet and 50% bass makes 100% of me.
Oh, did I mention I play sax as well? Or should I just keep that quiet!

Means that the test is completely unscientific.
But we all knew that
The questions are "interesting". Maybe if one of them had been "are you neurotic?" not many of us would have ended up scoring high on oboe.

What? Played with a bow?
On the Mary Shelley episode of 'The Mark Steel Lectures' he did a scenario of when Frankenstein's monster met the blind man that played the flute - the blind man was then seen playing a drum with two flutes as sticks!

I came out cello - and although I love that answer....followed by flute and bassoon....
what about clarinet???
I am wondering - has anyone figured out what "type" of person and characteristics "make" you a clarinetist according to this test? I tried to make it come out clarinet, and the highest I scored so far was 33%. Maybe if we can unlock this mystery, we'll know it's not just our reeds!

My husband scored higher on clarinet than I did and he's not a musician at all!
He had 50% and I had something like 25%.
My highest was trombone. TROMBONE!!! I never ever wanted to play trombone...and having tried both trumpet and tuba, I can say with assurance that I do NOT have whatever it takes to play a brass instrument!
Hubby had bassoon as the highest.

What a load of rubbish!
It makes me out to be a bass player. Yet my brain, in spite of a lot of effort, can barely pick out a bass part, let alone relate it to chords and progressions in any sort of non-academic way, which is no doubt why I resorted to playing melody instruments.

Hopefully it's not treating those around you like Benny Goodman was notorious for doing. Or being married as many times as Artie Shaw. Or putting up for years with George Szell.
Off to my first beginning oboe lesson ...

Just as a bit of mucking about, I tried answering all the questions in the extreme. If you select all the humblest, non-individual self-effacing options, you come out 100% clarinet. This test does not describe any clarinet player I know. Unsurprisingly, if you select all the most out-going, arrogant, to-hell-with-anyone-else options, you end up a trumpet player.

Thank you Mike Clarinet! ^0^
I actually wondered what was the rationale (if there's any) behind the wordings of the questionnaire.
It was so fun, but I don't think it merits too much of serious consideration.
BTW, trombone was the highest for me. Huh!

String Bass only 33% although I played for a good while.
Didn't even register on saxophone. Maybe it wasn't an option.

I came out as 87% a bassoonist which is an instrument I love the sound of but I have never seriously considered playing but only 33% a clarinettist (with lots of other instruments in between) .
To talk seriously, the test has at least one major drawback - it is only talking about the personality aspects of suitability for the instrument which, while they are important, are not the only consideration. For example, the biggest reasons that I would not have thought about the bassoon are that it costs so much and weighs so much to carry around on my fairly small frame and I also doubt whether my hand reach is big enough. As for all the people who seemed to be suited to the oboe, one of the big deciding factors between oboe and clarinet (or so I've heard) is the thickness of the lips and size of the mouth. Obviously there will be exceptions that prove the rule but there is no denying that physical characteristics play some part in suitability for an instrument.
In any case, let's not allow some test sway us from our instrument - if any friends ever ask me about which instrument they or their children should play, I tell them that there are all sorts of things to take into account and books to read etc but the biggest guide of all is which instrument you love!

LOL, I'm a Hornist!! Clarinet was a distant #4. Not surprising, however, as horn was my "secondary" instrument in college. My UW-Madison horn instructor--the late, great, John Barrows (of NY WWQ fame)--said I should have been a horn player and even offered to give me an instrument (an old Alexander double) if I switched majors from the clarinet. Our horn quartet (I played second, I think) played a couple of concerts and I can still "get around" on horn pretty well. So maybe this test has some validity and should be used to screen and guilde beginning band students to their choice of instrument. Given to me, "way back then", it might have saved me from dealing with those recent--and still terrible--V12 flowpacks.
[hmmmm....maybe there's a Conn 10D waiting for me on eBay]
