I would like to find out, because I'm playing on a pair of Frank Hammerschmidt clarinets, if in the event I can't procure German cut reeds, what would be a close substitute for it?
I was thinking of Zonda. Anyone else has any ideas?

Eb clarinet reeds are similar in width and scrape length, though the heel is shorter.

Eb clarinet reeds? Aren't they too small?

There is a store in Tokyo- Ishimori Wind Instruments. They have all the German/Austrian brands and the exchange is probably better for you than the Euro.
The email address is order[at]ishimori-co.com

Not for German mouthpieces - French style Eb reeds are shorter in length but roughly the same width and scrape length as a German Bb reed.

Skygardener, what's the address of that website?
Chris P, what did you say about the heel being shorter?

What I've been using on my Frank Hammerschmidt mouthpiece is older Olivieri reeds (back when they were made in Spain), strength #5, with the sides slightly narrowed at the tip (they are already narrow towards the heel so don't need any thinning there). They have a good thick vamp and are a bit longer than most reeds made for French-style mouthpieces, so with just this slight modification they seem to work pretty well on a German mouthpiece.

Thank your for all your help and opinion.
Just 1 more thing. What is the price range of the reeds listed on the website anyway?

Also, if you google the following: clarinet reeds german cut,
you will find many sites that have German cut reeds available.
I don' think you should have to find a substitute.

Try the Discount Reed Company in California (I think they're one of the sponsors of this site). I'm in Australia and get my Vandoren White Masters from them. Great prices and service - around 10 days from date of order and they're on my doorstep.
